About Duane Pitt MD
 

Dr. Pitt continues to practice in Arizona since 2000 and manages patients from Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale, and the other surrounding cities locally and regionally.

 

He has remained active in ongoing research on the diagnosis, management, and treatment of disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.  He is an active spine lecturer for various organizations, and continues to teach other Orthopaedic Spine Surgeons and Neurosurgeons on state of the art surgical techniques utilizing cadaver labs nationwide.

 

He continues to manage and treat, as a consultant, patients from a number of national professional athletic teams from the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), and Arizona State University Athletics Department (ASU).

Board Certified In Orthopedic Surgery

 

Dr. Pitt is currently a Board Certified Fellow of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

 

He has been active as the Spine Service Medical Director for Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn, Shea, and Thompson Peak campuses since 2006.

 

He is actively involved in the process of improving spine patient care system-wide by influencing and directing policy changes which directly impact quality control parameters/matrices for the operating room, ancillary services, diagnostic services, and other spine patient related care areas.

Education

 

 

Duane D.H. Pitt started his professional education at the University of California at Riverside where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Biology in 1989.  This was followed by Medical School at the University of California at Irvine School of Medicine finishing with a MD Degree in 1994.

 

 

His general surgery internship followed by an orthopedic surgery residency focused on scoliosis, trauma, deformity, cancer, pediatric and adult spine disorders, at Loma Linda University Medical Center in southern California.

 

 

He later accepted and completed a post doctorate Spine Fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 2000, where the focus was in spine deformity reconstruction, minimally invasive spinal surgery, and professional athlete sports related spinal injuries.

Professional Sports Teams Consultant

Dr Pitt currently consults on sports related spine injuries for:

  • Arizona State University Athletics Dept
  • San Francisco Giants
  • Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Level I Trauma -Elmendorf AFB
Pilot lost control of aircraft over the Aleutian Islands sustaining a T12 burst fracture during the time Dr. Pitt was deployed to Alaska.

Military Activity

Dr. Duane D. H. Pitt is an Aerospace Medicine trained Flight Surgeon in the Air National Guard.   He currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and is the Commander of the 129th Medical Group which supports the combat search and rescue operations of the 129 Rescue Wing.
